New Horse Trials Near Penrith Scrapped Due To Recession
An international horse trials weekend which was due to go ahead for the first time this year has fallen victim to the recession.
A lack of sponsorship has meant that top level trials planned for Hutton-in-the-Forest, near Penrith, in August have had to be cancelled.
Event co-organiser Douglas Weymouth said: “Sadly it has proved very difficult to reach the amount of sponsorship needed to fund courses.
“We contacted a large number of businesses across the North of England and Scotland and although many of our loyal local sponsors were keen to support the new event, many businesses could not help because of the worsening recession.
“We had a great opportunity to lay on one of the premier league of horse trials, and things have conspired against us. We haven’t moved backwards, we just haven’t moved forwards.”
