Smith Named in Eventing Squad

Te Kauwhata equestrian Donna Smith has achieved her initial goal of national representation.

Smith has been named in the senior New Zealand eventing team, along with her mount Stanage, for the trans-Tasman competition to be held in Adelaide in November.

The 29-year-old wasn’t part of the national high performance programme’s squads aimed at next year’s world equestrian games and the 2012 London Olympics.

But she can still force her way in with impressive performances in top events.

Mark Todd and Gandalf were left out of the squad for the world games but were included in the preliminary 2012 lineup.

Three Olympians made the squad for the games in Kentucky Joe Meyer and Snip, Andrew Nicholson and Avebury and Nereo, and Caroline Powell and Lenamore…
