Teen Wins Double Gold At Pony Club Nationals

Although she has yet to follow big brother Sam to the Olympics, Sophia Sacksen of Somerset County could be on her way.

The 19-year-old daughter of Dr. Joachim and Jennifer Sacksen captured the gold medal in the preliminary division of the eventing competition at the U.S. Pony Club national championship in Virginia last week.

Sacksen’s team won the team gold medal and the USPC Grand Prix award of an all-expenses-paid 10-day trip to Ireland.

Sam Sacksen was the highest-placing American in the 2008 Beijing Olympics men’s modern pentathlon.

His sister, along with twin and teammate, Rachael, arrived in Ireland on Tuesday morning…
