Eventing Team Named

The Irish squad for the European Eventing Championships at Fontainbleau, France, has been announced.

A total of six horse-and-rider combinations have been selected, four of whom will compete on the team with the remaining two competing individually.

Elizabeth Power and Kilpatrick River were an obvious choice after finishing 11th at Badminton in May, and Bandon rider Patricia Ryan has also been named with her Tattersalls International winner Fernhill Clover Mist.

Capt Brian Curran-Cournane, who has had a run of excellent results, is listed with The Sally Road, while former Punchestown champions Sacha Pemble and The Dun Thing have been chosen after filling top-10 spots in Luhmuhlen, Germany and at Hartpury in England.

Sarah Wardell and Killeenduff Boy and Sam Watson with Horseware Bushman complete the line-up.

HSI’s Ginny Elliott said that she had “some difficult decisions to make” because of improving form within her pool of riders and that four of the selected riders and five of the selected horses will be making their senior championship debuts.
