Women Find Heaven With Their Horses

Amanda Delaney’s two sons, Nick, 10, and Drew, 8, love to play sports. Golf. Baseball. Bowling. What they don’t participate in is horseback riding. That’s mom’s arena. Precious time she carves out just for herself.

“They don’t ride and that’s the way I like it,” said Delaney, whose responsibilities as a busy stay-at-home mom include chauffeuring her boys to their many activities.

A devout Yankees fan, Delaney can be found four to five days a week at Stoney Creek Stables in Farmington riding or caring for her horse, Jeter, a 12-year-old former racing thoroughbred.

The Fairport resident is part of a small female group of dedicated weekend warrior equestrians that board and train at owner Colleen Flora’s cozy 12-stall barn in Ontario County…
