Stephen Wins in Derbyshire

Robert Gordon University student Rebecca Stephen claimed the Open Eventing title at the Pony Club championships despite her horse Maggie falling ill the night before the final.

Stephen from Whiterashes in Aberdeenshire, qualified for the final in her class at the event which was held at Draycott House in Derbyshire.

After a vet ruled her horse out of the competition she rode to victory on team-mate Harriet Baird’s second horse Fingal. She said: “I knew I was going to be nervous on my own horse, never mind one I didn’t really know.

“Fingal did a good dressage test, went clear cross-country and only had one pole down in the show jumping – it was quite surreal and just brilliant I ended up winning.”
